Obituary of Eloise Yvonne Hopkins
CANISTEO: Mrs. Eloise ""Ellie"" Yvonne Hopkins, age 93, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018. She was born on July 30, 1925 in Walworth, New York to Earl Rudolph Burdick and Bessie Boynton Burdick.
Mrs. Hopkins was a resident of Walton County, Florida. She was Methodist by faith. She married her husband Gordon Hopkins on St. Patrick's Day 1945. Gordon was stationed in the South Pacific during WWII while Ellie attended Alfred University. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society of Women Teachers. She was a member of the Pavilion Players, a local Theater Group. She was part of the Red Hat Society, Docent at Corning Glass Works, Elder hostile at Watson Homestead, and an elementary school teacher in the Canisteo School District for 30 years.
Mrs. Hopkins was preceded in death by her father and mother and her loving husband Gordon Hopkins of Canisteo, New York. Mrs. Hopkins is survived by her three children Thomas Hopkins of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, James Hopkins of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Laurie Hopkins Stefanowicz of Winchester, Virginia; one brother Elwyn Burdick of Lancaster, New York; four grandchildren Dr. Bradley Hopkins of Williamsville, New York, McKenzie Hopkins of Carteret, New Jersey, Robert Stefanowicz of Cross Junction, Virginia, and Kristen Mistler of Midlothian, Virginia; and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where a memorial service and celebration of Eloise’s life will take place immediately following calling hours at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.
