Obituary of Howard R. Hulse
GREENWOOD: Howard R. Hulse, 79, of Ste. Rte. 417, passed away Friday evening, December 7, 2018 at his home with the comfort and care of his family around him, after an extended illness.
Howard was born September 4, 1939 in Hornell to the late Willard and Hope (Horton) Hulse. On September 2, 1967 in Canisteo he married the former Patricia Carney who survives and resides in Greenwood.
Howard had attended Greenwood Central school and had worked the majority of his life in the dairy farming industry. He and his brothers, Burdette and Leo, owned and operated the Hulse Brothers Farm in Greenwood for many years. Upon the sale of their dairy, Howard went to work for the Bar-B-R Farm in Greenwood and was employed for 20 years, right up until the time of his illness.
Howard was community minded and was a member of the Greenwood Vol. Fire Dept. where he and his wife Pat were active in many social activities. He also served seven years on the Board of Education at Greenwood Central School. His other interests included woodworking and spending quality time with his family and friends especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Pat Hulse of Greenwood, Howard is survived by a daughter Beth (James) Herring of Perry, a son Barry (Connie) Hulse of Grimes, Iowa, five grandchildren, Emma and Macie Hulse, Chase, Abygail and Justin Herring. He is also survived by a brother Leo Hulse of Hornell, a sister, Barbara (Calvin) Graves of Wellsville, a sister-in-law, Patsy Hulse of Greenwood as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Wednesday, December 12 at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. A memorial Mass will take place Thursday at 11:00 am at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Andover. Burial will be in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Andover.
