Obituary of Marieda A. Space

Please share a memory of Marieda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marieda A. “Happy” Space, 83, of Williams Road, Addison (Town of Rathbone), passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, December 15.

Born in Harrison Valley, PA on September 15, 1935, Happy was the daughter of the late Eddie and Ada (Cary) Kibbe. She was raised in Harrison Valley and was a 1954 graduate of the Harrison Valley High School.

On March 16, 1954, she married Guy Eugene Space in Knoxville, PA. Happy and Guy purchased their family farm in Rathbone which they operated together and raised their large family. Guy preceded her in death on January 16, 2002.

Happy was a member of the Woodhull Community Friends Senior Citizens and was an avid senior league bowler. She had attended the Woodhull Community Church. She was a wonderful cook and baker and always made sure that no one left with an empty stomach. A selfless mother and grandmother, Happy was always the last to eat and only when sure everyone else was served.

She was a talented painter as evidenced by the many pieces that are displayed in her home. Happy loved to make day trips to yard sales in the area, making friends more often than purchases. She adored her large family and they in turn.

Surviving are her children and their partners, Carl Space and Wendy Mettler of Cameron Mills, Richard and Delaina Space of Addison, John and Annette Space of Woodhull, William Space and Leah Colvin of Addison, Pat and Garry Calkins of Woodhull and Ann White and Alan Wheeler of Jasper, special family friend who was like a son, Rick Kempf of Lakeview, her daughter in law, Brenda Space of Jasper, 25 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, her brothers, Edwin (Betty) Kibbe, Leon (Donna Lee) Kibbe, Gerald (Donna Mae) Kibbe and Roger (Sue) Kibbe, all of Harrison Valley, her step sister, Ellen Winter of Germantown, MD, her sister in law, Roberta Space of Addison and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband Guy, Happy was predeceased by her son, Garfield Space, her son in law, Vern White and her sister, Bernice Easley.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 18 from 1-3 and 6-8 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be held there on Wednesday at 11 am with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
