Obituary of James L. Sharp

Hartsville: James L. "Jim' Sharp, 88, of Purdy Creek Rd. passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Elderwood at Hornell following an extended illness.

 

Jim was born August 31, 1930 in North Hornell to the late Floyd and Bernuth (Drake) Sharp. On April 12, 1952 in Sharon, Pa. he married the former Dolores Guthrie who survives and resides in Hartsville.

 

Jim had worked for many years as a carpenter at the former Feenaughty & Allen Building Company in Canisteo and later on was self-employed doing similar work throughout the Canisteo Valley. He enjoyed working with his hands and found great satisfaction in being a carpenter.

 

Jim had a great passion for the outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish, watch and feed the birds, grow vegetables and flowers in his garden. He also enjoyed throwing horseshoes, having cookouts and spending time with his family and friends.

 

In addition to his wife Dolores, to whom he was married to for nearly 67 years, Jim is survived by his children: David Sharp of Avoca, Jeanne (Sam) Beekman of Calif., Lee (Frieda) Sharp of Texas., Joseph (Frances) Sharp of Canisteo, Jonathan Sharp of Virginia, Judith Francis of Dansville, Wesley (Beckie) Sharp of Port Crane, Lori (Jesse) Shaw of Canisteo, Carol (Moses) Zamora of Texas, Michael Sharp and George (Tracey) Sharp all of Canisteo and several grandchildren, great grand and great, great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Glenn (Patricia) Sharp of Canisteo, sister-in-law Joyce Sharp of Canisteo, a half-sister Joyce Plank of Bath and half-brother Jack (Sandra) Burchard of Southgate, Michigan and nieces and nephews.

 

He was predeceased by two sons, Steve Sharp and Donald Sharp, a brother Robert Sharp and brother-in-law James Plank.

 

There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service and celebration of Jim's life Friday, January 18th at 1:00 pm at the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church, Cty. Rte. 69 in Canisteo.
