Obituary of Shirley S. Smith

       Shirley S. Smith, 77, of Absolut Care of Three Rivers, Painted Post and formerly of Tuscarora, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Corning Hospital.

       Shirley was born on September 20, 1941 in Tuscarora, one of eight children of Lawrence and Flora (Harris) Snyder. Growing up in the area, she was graduate of Addison Central School.

       In 1966 she married Eldon Smith who preceded her in death on January 3, 2007.

       Shirley was a homemaker and stay at home Mom but had also worked as a teacher’s aide through Steuben-Allegany BOCES with a focus on special education. She was a member of the Tuscarora Baptist Church. She found great comfort and joy in time spent with her family. Shirley enjoyed singing and strumming guitar with her brothers.

       Surviving Shirley are her children, Christine Lauri of Daytona, FL, Sheldon Smith of Addison and Robin Smith of Addison, her grandchildren, Jessica (Kenneth) Betz, Brandon Lauri, Hailey Gill and Mitchell Kohler, her great grandchildren, Nevaeh Betz, Paityn Betz, Tyler Lauri, Andrew Lauri and Lily Lauri, her brothers, Douglas (Shirley) Snyder of Lindley and Robert (Jean) Snyder of Lindley, her sister, Norma Burrell of Allegan, MI and several nieces and nephews.

       Besides her husband Eldon, Shirley was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Elwin “Ozark” (Joyce) Snyder and Gerald Snyder, her sisters, Leora Snyder and Joyce (Fort) Colegrove.

       Following Shirley’s wishes, there will be no services at this time. Her family will celebrate her life with a gathering at a later date.
