Obituary of Chester H. McCaslin
Chester H. “Tinker” McCaslin, 84, of County Route 99, Woodhull, NY, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 30 surrounded by his loving family.
Chet was born in Ulysses, PA on October 7, 1934, the son of the late Chester G. and Ethel (Sherwood) McCaslin. He attended school in Genesee, PA.
On July 2, 1955 Chet and the former Rosanna Mae Clark were married in Wellsville, NY. They made their home together in Woodhull where together they raised their large family. Chet was employed for 17 years by the Ingersoll Rand Co. in Painted Post. He also owned and operated a backhoe and did excavation work part time to help provide for his family. He and Rosanna purchased a farm on Pulteney Hill in Woodhull where they operated a dairy farm until their retirement after which it remained their home.
Chet is survived by his wife, Rosanna McCaslin of Woodhull, his nine children and their spouses, Chester R. and Cheryl McCaslin of Cohocton, David McCaslin of Trenton, Maine, Penny and Craig Shedd of Mansfield, PA, Patrick and Karen McCaslin of Woodhull, Karen Pearl of Woodhull, Robynn and Wendell LeGalley of Jewett, TX, Kenneth McCaslin of Owingsville, Kentucky, Brian McCaslin of New England, ND and Daniel and Betty McCaslin of Cohocton, 17 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, his brother, Clair (Sandy) McCaslin of North Carolina, his sisters, Esther Chapman of Shinglehouse, PA and Nancy Barnett of Hollsport, NY along with several nieces and nephews.
Chet was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jennifer Bradford, his daughter in law, Michelle McCaslin and his siblings, Ella Mae Cruz, Shirley Cruz, Elsie Cook, Beatrice Duell Farrand, Arlene Miller, Marie Miles, Benjamin McCaslin and Jane McCaslin.
Friends may call on Saturday, February 2 from 3-5 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 5 pm with Chaplain Syd McCrorie officiating.
