Obituary of Gary R. Mullen, Sr.

CANISTEO: Gary R. Mullen, Sr. of Ste. Rte. 248 passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell following a brief illness.

 

Gary was born May 21, 1941 on the family farm in Canisteo. to the late Raymond L. and Marian (Besse) Mullen. On April 13, 1968 in Hornell, he married Patricia "Pat" (Thomas) Mullen, who predeceased him August 13, 2016. He was also predeceased by a brother Dale P. Mullen.

 

Gary was a life-long resident of Canisteo where he was a dairy farmer on State Route 248 for many years. He also drove school bus for the Greenwood Central School District and at one time drove bulk milk truck for Mullen Trucking of Canisteo.

 

Gary was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt. He especially looked forward to deer season when he could hunt with his family and friends. He also enjoyed small game hunting and reloading his own ammunition. He enjoyed driving through the hills and valleys of the area, Slate Creek, Call Hill, Bennetts Creek to name a few, and with those drives there would be a creative smile that would go along with a good story of events and times gone by.

 

Gary is survived by three sons: Gary R. (Rose) Mullen, Jr., Gregory (Billie) Mullen and Glendon Mullen all of Canisteo, one daughter: Gessica Mullen of Canisteo, 7 grandchildren: Zachary Galton, Brett Mullen, Madison Mullen, Makayla Mullen, Gary R. Mullen, III, Grace Mullen and Elisha Mullen, one great granddaughter: Ireland Mullen.

 

Gary is also survived by a sister Betty (Thomas) O'Rourke of Painted Post, two brothers, Richard (Linda) Mullen of Rexville and Keith Mullen of Canisteo and several nieces and nephews.

 

At Gary's request there will be no calling hours or service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
