Herman B. Potter, 89, of St. Rte. 36, Troupsburg, NY entered into rest on Monday, July 30, 2012 at the Green Home in Wellsboro, Pa. Born in Troupsburg on December 13, 1922, Herm was the son of the late Benjamin J. and S. Elizabeth Burnside Potter. He was a graduate of Troupsburg High School. He was a US Army veteran, serving at the close of World War II. After leaving the military, Herm was a mail carrier for a short time and then was employed in road construction. He spent many years working with his brother Elbert as a mechanic and truck driver at Elbert Potter Garage in Troupsburg. Along with his regular jobs, he always operated his small family farm. Herm also assisted his brother Gilbert in building construction. On July 9, 1966, he and Bertha Clark were married in Wellsboro. They were long time members of the Austinburg Methodist Church. Herm served the Town of Troupsburg for several years as Town Constable. He was also a former member of the Troupsburg Ambulance Corp. and the Austinburg Grange. Herm was preceded in death by his brothers, Elbert in 1996 and Gilbert in 2011. Surviving are his wife, Bertha Potter of Troupsburg, his son and daughter in law, Dennis and Margaret Potter of Troupsburg, his daughter, Cindy Adams of Mansfield, Pa., his grandchildren, John and Shayna Potter and Vanessa, Anthony and Tyresa Adams, his great grandchildren, Devlin, Zayne and Carmen Zihm, and Austin Fuller, his sisters, Nellie Tubbs of North Tonawanda, NY, Norma Swimely of Palmer, Alaska and Jean (Keith) Sworts of Fairbanks, Alaska, his brother in law and sisters in law, Carl and Bonnie Clark of Wellsboro and Margaret Potter of Troupsburg and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Friday, Aug. 3, from noon to 2 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 2:00 PM with Pastor Sherry Good officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Austinburg, Pa. Memorial donations may be made to the Austinburg Methodist Church.
