Obituary of Eugene VanZile
Eugene “Zip” VanZile, 83, of Seneca View Nursing Facility, Montour Falls and formerly of Addison, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Seneca View.
Zip was born in Lawrenceville, PA on August 14, 1935, the son of the late Franklin B. and Marjorie Jones VanZile. He was a 1955 graduate of the former Painted Post High School.
On December 18, 1954, he and Marlene Gay Osborn were married at the North Baptist Church in Corning. They eventually made their home in Addison where they raised their family together. Marlene preceded him in death on April 28, 2017. As a young man Zip served in the Army National Guard.
Zip was a longtime employee of over 40 year of the Ingersoll Rand Co. in Painted Post where he held various jobs over his time there. He was a 40 year member of the Addison Fire Department where he acted as a fire policeman and was a past President. He is now a life member of the department. Zip and Marlene had been very involved in youth sports groups in Addison.
Surviving are his children and spouses, Robin and William Kmetz of Johnstown, PA, Gail Knepley of Addison, Kelly Keesey and Steve Coates of Woodhull and Bryan and Sunday VanZile of Elkhart, IN, grandchildren, Billy Kmetz, Melissa (Aaron) Walizer, Joshua Keesey (Ally Hakes), Mitchell Keesey, Aaron Keesey, Bryan (Chris) VanZile, Brendon (Sarah) VanZile, Adam (Alicia) VanZile, Christy Shepard, Dalton Heasler and Nicole Heasler, great grandchildren, Patrick, Morgan, Alyssa, Alleighona, Kirrah, Braedon, Theo, McKenzie, Maddox, Cole, Brady, Derek and Wyatt, his brothers, Hank (Linda) VanZile of Burlington, VT, and Larry VanZile of Addison, his sisters, Connie Greenfield of Dundee and Mary Vandermark of Corning, along with many nieces and nephews and his beloved cat Sneakers.
Zip was preceded in death by his wife Marlene as well as his son, Ricky VanZile, his son in law, Michael Knepley, his brothers, Robert, Wesley, Benjamin, Donald and Clifford “Kip” VanZile and his sister, Dolores Barlow.
Friends may call on Friday, March 8 from 6-8 pm and again from 11 am - 1 pm on Saturday at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be held there on Saturday at 1 pm.
Burial will be in Addison Rural Cemetery.
Memorials in Zip’s name are suggested for the Addison Little League.
