Just now learning of Dr Collins’ passing. Over the years he cared for my husband and me so well, always with a smile, a laugh or two, and his great expertise. He became like family to us and, no matter what the circumstance, we always felt better just seeing him show up and knowing we were in his care.
He was truly one of a kind, with skills and interests in so many areas, and many stories to tell. We moved from the area many years ago but, no matter where we are, he as well as his care will always be one of our fondest memories of our years in Alfred. Not only our trusted doc, we always felt he was our friend as well. Rest In Peace, dear friend.

Dear Rae & Family, I just came across the news of Doc's passing and I am so sorry. I remember meeting Doc for the first time when I was very young at Blakeley Farm. Doc was a good man and a great friend to Daddy for many many years. They shared many late evening phone calls talking about hereford cattle. He also saved Daddy's life a time or two... I do believe. With time, may your memories bring you much comfort.

Sorry this condolence is dated. Only read this obituary today. Dr. Collins performed my (successful) knee surgery in 1972 and my GP until I moved out of the area. Many fond memories of this giant of a man.

Sympathy to the family.
And recognition to a wonderful man.
Learned so much from him, not only about medicine , but life in general.
A master at the art of medicine, who took that art to other arenas.

I have so many memories of Doc.
We ran a cast clinic through the ER. Sometimes he would be late. On one occasion he said he forgot and was getting his hair cut. know one minded. He was worth waiting for.
I particularly enjoyed reading Docs dictations, he spoke his mind and you always new just what he was thinking.
Doc you always came when we needed you. You always made us laugh. You took wonderful care of us, our families, friends, and our community. The world has lost a truly great man.

Wow ! My heart is broken. He was such a huge part of my Family's life. He took care of my Grandparents, Mom, Uncle and Aunts not to mention ME, my brothers & sister. He'd meet us right at the ER when needed. Always there and give it to you straight. Can't imagine not having him around. Feels like a security blanket is gone. I know I will certainly miss him. I will pray for you (his family) during this time.

Dr. Collins saved my life numerous times. He was my friend and doctor for over 50 years. I was diagnosed with Crohns disease in 1974, When others wanted to operate doctor took a different approach and I lived a fruitful life until 1998. Doctor suggested I go to the Cleveland Clinic for a second opinion at which time I had surgery. I Will miss you Dr. like everyone else you served over your career. I have so many stories I could share of our relationship, but it would take to long. May God bless you Dr. I know when He greets you He will say great job Byron you served all your patients with love and respect and kindness. My sympathy to all your family, and especially to Mona. Until we meet again, may you rest in peace.

Byron literally saved my life in 2002 when I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. He took over complete charge of my post op care when other doctors were making mistakes in my treatment. Byron was a friend to both my husband and myself. We shall never forget him and are eternally grateful and honored to have known such a fine human being. We will miss you, By, but hope you are resting in peace.
