Obituary of Ella B. Preston

Ella B. Preston, 95, of County Route 16, Painted Post (Town of Orange), entered into rest on Tuesday morning, August 7, 2012 at home. Ella was born in Pine Valley, NY on March 1, 1917, one of nine children of Arnold and Blanche Miller Perry. She attended country school in Little Marsh, Pa., graduating as valedictorian of her class. On January 5, 1936, she and Donald F. Preston were married in Little Marsh. Don preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1977. Ella worked for several years at Miller's restaurant in Painted Post. She later worked for Corning Glass Works and retired after many years with Ingersoll- Rand Company in Painted Post. Ella was a very talented quilter and lovingly shared her work with family and friends. She was also a great cook and her meals were the highlight of all family gatherings. Besides her husband Don, Ella was predeceased by her son Hugh Preston in 2001, her sisters, Ethel Long, Shirley Hunter and Betty Tongue, her brothers, Bill Perry and Fred Perry and her son in law, Jim Price. Surviving are her sons and daughters in law, Robert & Kathryn Preston of Laveen, AZ, Larry & Chris Preston of Morrisville, NC and Michael & Marie Preston of Painted Post, her daughters and sons in law, Donna Price of Painted Post, Sherri & Bruce Kasick of Dallas, NC, Kay & Howard Houghtaling of Bradford and Patti Preston of Malta, NY and her daughter in law, Carol Preston of Hornby. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, her sisters, Wanda Matthews of Painted Post and Ruth Arduini of Corning, her brother, John Perry of Florida, her sister in law, Alberta Woodworth of Hornell and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Sunday, August 12 from 1-2 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Services will follow at 2 PM with Rev. Daniel Knopf officiating. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery.
