William Hyer Jr., 67, of Hardscrabble Road, Addison, NY, entered into rest on Sunday, August 12 at home after a brief illness. Born in Newark, NJ on June 11, 1945, Bill was the son of the late William C. and Marie Venezia Hyer. He was a graduate of Oakcrest Regional High School in Mayslanding, NJ. Bill enlisted in the US Air Force in 1965 and served until 1969. During his active service, he was assigned to bases in New Jersey, Virginia and Alaska. On Dec. 11, 1966, he and Henrietta "Penny" Siefert were married in Port Republic, NJ. She survives. Bill worked as an auto body technician after leaving the service. He then was employed as an aircraft mechanic for many years at the 177th Air National Guard unit at Pomona, NJ. He later was employed as a fuel truck driver. Bill and Penny were long time members of the Weekstown Community Church in New Jersey and were currently attending the West Jackson Baptist Church in Millerton, Pa. He was also a 40 year member of the Weekstown Fire Department and came up through the ranks to serve as Assistant Fire Chief. Bill and Penny had purchased property in Rathbone NY in 1980, spending free time here until moving to their new home permanently in 2008. Surviving are his wife, Penny Hyer of Addison, his daughter and son in law, Jennifer and Oscar Echevarria of Egg Harbor City, NJ, his sons and daughters in law, Jeffrey and Keri Hyer of Weekstown, NJ and Walter and Kelly Hyer of New Gretna, NJ, his grandchildren, Julianne, Justin and Steven Echevarria and Jordan, Walter, Heather and Jennifer Hyer, his great granddaughter, Hailey, his sister, Linda Henschel of Sweetwater, NJ and several nieces and nephews. His brother, Dennis Hyer preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 21 at 7 PM at the Weekstown Fire Station, 5733 Pleasant Mills Road, Weekstown, NJ. Friends are welcome to come a half hour early to visit family as well as being invited to stay following the service for a time of fellowship.
