Obituary of James W. Carter
James W. Carter, 79, of County Route 99, Woodhull, NY, passed away at home in the loving care of his wife following several years of poor health.
Jim was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee on December 2, 1939, the son of the late John and Hazel Jenkins Carter. Raised in Elizabethton, he was a graduate of the Elizabethton High School.
Jim studied meat cutting and became a master meat cutter. On August 1, 1970, Jim married the former Joyce Ritchey in Boulder City, Nevada. They built a home in Woodhull and moved here where they raised their large family together. Jim opened a meat cutting business in his home which he operated for many years.
Jim and Joyce attended the Woodhull Community Church very loyally together.
Jim is survived by Joyce Carter, his wife of 49 years, at home, his children and their partners, Debra DeMars and Andy of Wilmington, NC, Jeffrey Martin of Brooklyn, NY, Jennifer and Dave Moore of Pittsburg, PA, Jeanne “Kelly” and Michael Menard of Corpus Christi, TX, Joanna “Annie” and Jay Johnson of Richmond, VA, John and Jesse Gardner of Lindley, NY and Joshua and Debbie Carter of Schoharie, NY, his grandchildren, Aaron, Abby, Marika, Olivia, Natalie, Lindsey, Lily, Ben, Shannan, Gil, Enoch, Daniel, Elisha, Aiden and Gwendolyn, along with a niece and several nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hazel Carter, his brother, Larry Carter and his sister, Grace Duggar.
Friends may call on Friday, November 15 from 3 to 5 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Jim’s funeral service will be conducted on Saturday at 2 pm at the Woodhull Community Church, W. Main St. Woodhull, NY. Pastor Brian Diffenbacher will officiate.
Burial will be made in Woodhull Cemetery.
