Obituary of Robert L. Sharp

CANISTEO: Robert L. Sharp, 80, of Second St. passed away Tuesday (August 21, 2012) at the Bath V.A. Hospital following a long illness. Bob was born September 8, 1931 in Hornell to Floyd and Bernuth (Drake) Sharp. On May 27, 1972 in Adrian he married Joyce Quick who survives and lives in Canisteo. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War from 1951-53. He had worked for many years as a laborer at building and road construction for Hollands Hardware and Lumber and A.L. Blades and Son of Hornell. He also worked road construction for the Town of Canisteo and recently had his own lawn mowing and trimming business in the Canisteo area. Bob was a member and Past Commander of the Canisteo American Legion Post 846, a member of the Hornell VFW, Adrian Baptist Church and a former member of the Canisteo Rod & Gun Club. Bob was an avid bowler and also loved to play pool, throw horseshoes and hunt with family and friends. In addition to his wife of 40 years, Joyce Sharp of Canisteo, Bob is survived by a daughter Penni Ilges of Georgia, Step-children: Chip McDaniel of Rochester, Bonnie Jo Smith, Peggy Ann (Gale) Miles, Laurie Leigh O'Konski, and Valerie Beth (Erin) O'Brien all of Canisteo. He is also survived by three brothers: Glenn (Patricia) Sharp of Jasper, James (Delores) Sharp of Hartsville and Jack (Sandra) Burchard of Michigan, one sister: Joyce Plank of Bath, an aunt: Lenora (William) Strum of Canisteo, 12 grand children, 10 great grand children and several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. Funeral service and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery.
