She was a wonderful lady. Through 4-H she started my life long love of sewing and her example led me to be a 4-H leader also. Though I never did get bit by the quilting bug. I'm not sure how she ever put up with a dozen of loud, boisterous, and often obnoxious girls for an hour every week. That is dedication or more probably pure love. Sorry I couldn't make the service but I got called into work.

My sympathies to the family. Norma was also my 4-H leader. She and my Mom taught me how to sew. After meeting their high standards, many of us were able to win ribbons at the Steuben County fair. Our first project was to make a sewing box by pasting fabric to the inside and the outside of a cardboard box. We filled the covered box with sewing supplies. Then we made things like aprons, gathered skirts, and blouses. Norma was also a good friend to my parents. Norma and Mom took long walks together, and they challenged themselves by walking up the McMaster road and the Swale road along Reynolds creek in Cameron. They were also in the Cameron chapter of the women’s Home Bureau club where they made all sorts of craft projects and learned homemaking skills. I remember Mom frequently telling Dad about something “Norma and Jesse” were doing. Dad and Jesse used to like to go fishing in the river. Whenever I saw Norma, she always had a smile on her face. The children in Cameron always liked to go trick or treating at Norma’s and Jesse’s house. Norma would have home-made goodies for us. Norma will be missed. Thank you for the box of old letters from WWII you delivered to Judy. We can’t wait to read them! Donna Silsbee (daughter of Don and Lou Silsbee)

I remember Norma best when I was a child in 4-H. The club members went as a group to different houses to learn baking and cooking skills. Norma’s was baking. She taught us how to make pies, cakes and cookies. I used to love her smile and laugh. I would also stop by and admire her flowers in the front garden. She had such a variety of flowers with many colors and shades. She was a valued member of our community and she will be missed.
