I was so very sorry to read of Betty's passing. I enjoyed years of getting together at JC's for monthly breakfast and celebrating the birthday of the month. Betty was always a classy dresser and her smile lite up a beautiful face. I lost contact with Betty when she moved. She will always be remembered in my heart for the lovely visits with her and for the wonderful cookies that she shared with us gal's. God's grace and peace be with Betty and may her family and friends be comforted by loving memories of a sweet and wonderful example of a faithful servant of God. A friend of Betty's, Sharon Haley

It is with great sadness and shock that I just learned about Betty's passing, during a phone conversation with one of her lifetime friends, my mother, Margaret Lewis. Like so many people who grew up in a rural area and then ended up leaving it as they pursued their life's course, I have always tried to keep up with what's happening 'back home' by calling every now and then "to get the news". Sometimes it's happy news, sometimes it's just run-of-the-mill -what-you'd-expect-to-be-happening-in-an agricultural-community news (planting crops, doing the haying, harvesting corn and so on), and then sometimes you hear something that immediately brings tears to your eyes, followed soon thereafter with flushes and flushes of old memories. Well, this is one of those latter times for me.
As a kid who grew up in the community, I can look back now and see that Craig and Betty Lewis, along with a handful of other couples, were the stalwarts of the local community, the ones that really held it together in so many, largely unseen and unacknowledged ways, what with with their strong work ethic, their love and devotion to one another, and their caring and love for their children and other community members. While our family and theirs did not exchange work during the farm growing season, mostly pertaining to haying, like we did with the Bob and Doris Lewis family, I nonetheless did get to spend time with Craig and Betty's kids due to riding on the same school bus, seeing and interacting with them at school, and mostly, and this pertains to the boys, hunting deer with them, and Craig, for many years. I have many fond memories of those experiences.
I did occasionally see, and interact, with Betty, but that was mostly at family reunions and during that trip that some of the local families would take to Bath every year, to pick grapes, and to eat a communal picnic at the fish hatchery. In all my interactions with Betty I always found her to be a very pleasant person to talk with, one who would break into her characteristic smile and laughter without much prodding on anyone's part. She always would ask how I was doing in a sincere and caring manner, and there was no doubt that she truly did want to hear your update. As a teenager, I was always struck by how dashing of a couple Craig and Betty were when they came to basketball games- they dressed nicely and they were a handsome pair. I see strong family resemblances in their kids (my cousins) and in my cousins' kids in turn (whom unfortunately I really do not know well), so I am reminded of both Craig and Betty when I see their descendants.
So, Steve, Jeff, Connie, Don, Darla, Mike and Mary Dawn, all your spouses, and kids, and kids of kids, I offer my sincerest condolences on the passing of Betty. It is a difficult transition. She lived on this earth the same number of years as my dad, who thought the world of Betty, and who considered Craig as one of his best friends, and who similarly had a rough time the last few years of his life, so I have a sense of what you are going through. I wish you the best. Your mother was a very caring and loving person, and had a great influence on many people in that small farming community that she lived in, and called home, for so many years, including me. I am happy to have known her.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of spending time on the farm with all of you. The last time I saw Aunt Betty was at Mom's 80th birthday get-together. It was great to see her and it meant a lot to Mom that she came. You are all very much in my thoughts. Anita Drake Richards

Despite having an enormous family of her own, Sam’s Great Great Aunt Betty joined us to celebrate his First Communion, on this day in 2017. This picture is just one example of how her soul outshined her life-long outer beauty.

Aunt Betty, a gentle spirit and a warm smile. I have many fond memories of visiting the Lewis Farm. By example, Betty and Craig showed us all the meaning of family. Sincere condolences to all the Lewis clan.
