REXVILLE: Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Lewis, 91, formerly of Saunders Rd. passed away peacefully at her daughter Connie & Mark’s home in Penfield, Monday, April 26, 2021, where she received loving care for the past two years. Betty was born September 30, 1929 on Irish Hill in Rexville to Liguori and Mary Kieff. She attended school for several years on Irish Hill and graduated from Greenwood High School in June 1947. On September 27, 1947 she married Craig William Lewis in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rexville. She and her husband ran a family dairy farm on Saunders Rd., (Rexville) for close to 50 years and raised seven children. Betty was a life-long communicant of St Mary’s Church in Rexville. A very active member of the Alter and Rosary Society. For several years she volunteered at the former St. James Mercy Hospital in the gift shop. Her home was always welcomed to visitors and there was always room at the dinner table for a delicious meal. Her most enjoyable moments were family visits, enjoying her grandchildren, and a hot cup of tea with a homemade baked treat. In 1997 after the death of Craig, she moved to Arkport to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Paula, in an attached apartment to their home for over 20 years. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in sports, school plays and concerts. She attended the Arkport Methodist Church where she made many new friends. Betty is survived by her children: Stephen (Mary Liz) of Andover, Jeffery (Cheryl) of Whitesville, Don (Julia) of Rexville, Connie Lewis (Mark Ladenheim) of Penfield, Darla ( Willliam) McCaig of Painted Post, Michael (Paula) of Arkport, Mary Dawn (Scott) Elllison of Rexville. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren with 2 great grandchildren on the way. Several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was predeceased by 3 brothers William Liguori, Francis Leo and James Richard Kieff, and 4 sisters, Mary Rita Brown, Kathryn Rose O’ Brien, Margaret Veronica Cleveland and infant sister Teresa Agatha Kieff who died at birth. There will be no public calling hours or service. A private Mass and Christian burial will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Churchyard Cemetery in Rexville. Memorial contributions in Betty’s name may be made to Our Lady of the Valley, with a memo for St. Mary’s Rosary and Alter Guild Rexville, 26 Erie Ave. Hornell, N.Y. 14843.
