" Tom" and Jeff laid to rest at least 3 generations of the Hargrave and Dennis families. We always knew that we would be served with kindness, compassion and respect. and friendship because many were friends. "Tom spoke so kindly about my brother Carl at his funeral in 2014. He has given so much service to the communities of Canisteo, Woodhull andJasper that he will be missed by innumerable people. Condolences to the entire Smith family. Arthura Dennis Carpenter Mooresville, NC.

My condolences to the Smith family. My dad did carpentry work for Asa and was able to become good friends with him in the process. I will always remember his good sense of humor and how he could always make people feel comfortable in their time of sorrow. He spoke at my dad's (Carl Dennis) funeral which was very nice since he knew him so well. He put up with the jokes that Al Smith and I made when we were working on the addition to the Canisteo funeral home that he hired Carl to do. So many people were able to know Asa through the years because of his funeral home and furniture store. His community involvement was extraordinary also. It is rare to find someone who has touched the lives of as many people as Asa did. He will be missed.

So very sorry to read of Tom's death. I so clearly remember our last conversation and hugs when my husband, Carl, and I drove to Canisteo for another friend's funeral service. Tom had such a nice way of making one feel as if one was the best friend he'd ever had. He was truly interested and caring in what was happening in our lives. Our very deep sympathy to Margaret and the others in Tom's family. Sincerely, Dora Lee (Snyder) and Carl Alexander

Our condolences to the Smith family in the loss of their loving father.
We were blessed to have Tom and Margaret as our " across the street neighbors" They were always so kind and welcoming. We enjoyed the times we got to visit with them, either at our house or theirs.
We will miss seeing him raise his American flag each morning and taking it down in the evening along with other wonderful times.
God bless you all and may your memories sustain you!

Tom always greeted me with a hug and a good ‘roughing up’.
I had many Rotary lunches when I wondered if he had snuck something in my food - lots of good laughs over my suspicions.
Marg, Mike, Cindy, Pat and family - Tom was a pillar of the community. My heartfelt thoughts are with all of you.
