First my condolences to Waneta and the family. Otis will be greatly miss. The last time I visited Otis was beginning of Nov. Before I went on vacation, he told me that he wouldn't be home when I came back. He said his goodbye to me with a great big hug. I will miss him . R. I. P. Otis, you will never be forgotten.

I first met Otis and Waneta in 2001when they were CAPing at Hamlin SP, where I was working. Otis wore his safari hat with his birthday, March 25th. Our close friendship bond began as that is also birth date.
Numerous campers, over the years, camp experience have been enriched by Otis’s and Waneta’s welcoming manner, knowledge, caring guidance, camp fires, and his homemade games.
Otis, in his quiet manner, seemed to be always tinkering thinking of ways to make things easier for them and others.
With our same birth dates led us to celebrating our birthdays together. My son, Craig, and I would drive to where ever they were camping in FL. Lunch at Golden Corral was a favorite with Otis. We brought a him a hanging flower plant our first birthday visit. Otis commented that no one had ever brought him flowers. When asked about the flowers, Otis would always say his “girlfriend”gave them to him. They brought the flowers to NY and any NYSP they CAPed in. We have continued birthday greetings by phone. Otis’s flowers arrive in the Spring, on my arrival back from FL. Waneta provides the TLC that has them survive for months of enjoyment.
Otis has welcomed us with a firm handshake, hug and twinkle in his eye.
Craig, a police officer, stopped to visit Otis and Waneta, in full uniform and driving his patrol vehicle, after attending a training in the area of their FL campgrounds. They were and still are amused by campers inquiries. We’re sure campers are still talking about it.
A must do for us and Otis and Waneta is to visit them before Craig goes back to FL in the Spring and before we drive south in the Fall.
“Well done good and faithful servant!”
Enter Otis your room is ready. John 14:2-4

Waneta - My deepest condolences to you for Otis' passing. Meeting you and Otis as CAPS was a delight for me, you were both gracious and accepting of me as a friend of Hank's and Bud's. Visiting your home a couple times with them was a pleasure. Otis' laid-back personality shined through; he seemed like a man that had experienced enough in life that few things ruffled him. I have a feeling that his years of truck driving had something to do with that. He was a man who seemed to be at peace with his place in the world, a rare thing these days.
Prayers to the Lord for comfort to you and your family.

Otis was a great guy! We camped near him, frequently. He was always bringing these metal puzzles to our campsite that only he could figure out! What a great sense of humor he had! We will miss him! Fly high, Otis.

Otis, who would of thought that in the early 80's when I first met you when you were delivering ARCO gas to my uncle Ronnies gas station in Rochester, NY that you were already a part of the family that God had in HIS plan for my life. So many memories have been made thereafter from splitting wood for our endless campfires(thanks for the #3 iron hint to poke the fire) while we were Red CAPing together. Oh the toilet paper rolls we went thru. We cann't forget the bike rides to Devils Nose nor the kickball games with JR and the boys when you lost your wedding ring (never to be found again) but you just smiled as had no worries as you said you still had "Dolly". We also cherish the oodles of hours spent on cold nights playing "dirty marbles" or "hand/foot". You were a good sport and always ready for just one more game even when we lost to the girls. Our lives will not be the same without you but Rest in Peace until we meet again. (Because you know it won't be quiet once we get there) Much Love, Paul & Angel

Dear sweet Otis, you will be sadly missed. You were a man with few words with a huge heart. You will be thought of every time we watch the Buffalo Bills. We will cherish all the conversations, wisdom and love you’ve given over the years. You will never be forgotten, rest in peace.
—Love you always

Uncle Otis was as kind a man as he was good looking, for that reason I’ll never forget the golf cart rides and conversations we’ve shared over the years. He’s created many memories during the 97 years he spent on this world, but now that he himself has become a memory all we can do is remember how gentle of a man he was. Rest in peace.
