I enjoyed some really great years with Mr. Cain at the J-T Elementary School. He was a wonderful principal, human being, and personal friend. Doing hundreds of Morning Programs with him stands out among my favorite memories. But, of course, there are many, many more. I will miss you Mr. Cain, and my deepest, heartfelt condolences go out to Cathy and family. Stan Matteson/J-T Elementary Music Teacher ’88-’22.

Uncle Johnny, you were not technically our Uncle-but you were the kind of guy who could be everyone’s Uncle. Your warm smile, calm demeanor and sense of lightness and laughter were a pleasure to be around. A family man, an educator, a loving husband and father-all these roles shone through in all you said and did.
You will be missed deeply. The memories we have will be cherished, as they are filled with smiles and laughter. As you knew, these were the best medicines for all the valleys of life that we walk through. May you reunite with your brother and resume the shenanigans in our dear Lord’s Kingdom of Heaven. ✨

We were so shocked and saddened to hear of John's passing, since we had just seen him in church on Sunday. John was the principal for our children during their elementary years and both Leann and Brent have fond memories of him, including the yellow VW. Victor enjoyed visits in the school office over the years. Every time we saw John, he asked about all of us, he was a genuine caring person. As a teacher at JT, I had the utmost respect for John as a fair and level headed administrator who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to be sure our students had every opportunity possible and were never hindered by our rural location. His imprint on students, staff, and families over the years will remain forever.
Our deepest sympathies to all,
Victor and Jean Green

Kathy, I just heard of John's passing. Although I had met John just the one time, I enjoyed his conversation and could tell what a great guy he was. Remember all your good times and may he RIP.

In the spring of 1987 JCS and TCS merged. Soon after, Mr. Cain became the first principal of Jasper -Troupsburg Elementary School. He was its guiding force for over two decades. What a wonderful school he created! He took two sets of teachers and skillfully formed them into an absolutely wonderful group of educators. His concern and respect for our students, as well as the high level of excellence expected from all students and staff, were obvious throughout the 22 years he was my principal at J – T Elem. It’s impossible to put into words how special, dedicated, and caring John was. Reading the tributes from our former students shows the impact he had on generations of J - T families. We always knew that John had the best interests of our students at the heart of all his decisions … including the time he arranged for the entire elementary school to go to Hornell to view the newly released The Polar Express movie. John will truly be missed by everyone whose life he touched.

John was an understanding boss. He always tried to solve any situation in a kind way. Lots of memories are stored in our minds which will pop up and give us a happy thought of John. Wish I could be there today but this cold virus has to stay away from all my special friends from JT. May God watch over Kathy and family during this sad time and the holiday season. Love to all. I remember John's dry humor, quick wit, love of VW Bugs, and his insightful comments concerning JCS and, later on, J-T sports. He was a role model to his students. I am glad to be numbered among his friends.
My sincere condolences to his family.

As a mom of 5 kids, who all went to JT elementary, I have only fond memories of John. He was a great leader and the atmosphere at the school was supportive and fun for kids. If I had an issue, he helped. If my kids needed support, he made that happen. I don’t think we could have asked for a better principal. It saddens me that he left this world too young. He deserved so many retirement years of joy for all the good he shared. May God let him know how much we appreciated all he did.

Condolences to the family and friends of the incomparable Mr. Cain. I remember him as one of my earliest authority figures and someone I looked up to. Later, as I returned to the school as the parent of a student, I felt the familiar warmth and mutual respect from Mr. Cain. The sadness of his passing will be far-reaching.
