Obituary of Shirley M. Michaluk

Shirley Mildred Baker Michaluk, 87, of Painted Post, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Absolut Care of Three Rivers in Painted Post. Shirley was born in Woodhull on November 12, 1935, a daughter of the late Claude D. and Mildred S. (Harry) Baker. She was a 1953 graduate of Woodhull High School. On April 13, 1963, Shirley married Joseph A. Michaluk in Las Vegas, NV. He preceded her in death on December 25, 2000. From 1960 through 1987, she and Joe made their home in California. Shirley had been an accounting manager in the Montgomery Ward & Co. West Coast buying office in Rosemead, CA. She has also taught arts and crafts at Mt. San Antonio Jr. College. Shirley enjoyed cooking, all types of needle crafts, drawing, painting and traveling. Upon returning to New York, Shirley became a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Corning where she had served as a Deacon, usher, greeter and reader. She assisted with the Church’s coffee hour and was a member of the Women’s Fellowship group. She volunteered at the Corning Senior Center for many years and was a member of Addison Eagles Aerie 3904. Shirley is survived by many nieces, nephews and great and great great nieces and nephews and dear friends. Besides her husband Joe, Shirley was predeceased by her siblings, Ivan Baker, Ervin Baker, Irma Willis, Doris Flint, Claude Baker Jr., Milford Baker, Maynard Baker, Bernard Baker and Zane Baker and her longtime companion, Herb Shirey. Family and friends may call on Thursday, March 23 from 12 noon to 2 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Her funeral service will follow there at 2 pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery.
