I'm Frances Freeman's grand daughter. I'm very sorry to hear about you alls loss with Mart. I never got to see them too much but I do remember a little about them and have always thought about Mart over the years after he left springhill. For some reason I always remembered his name being Mark though. I've tried finding him on goodle up until seeing this but I never had any information to go on other than his name. He was a cool man from what I remember. My condolences to all of you!

Uncle Mart loved to give his great-nieces and nephews a hard time. He would be the first to encourage us to be troublemakers and turn around and rat us out once we went through whatever silly shenanigans we came up with. Coming up from the creek covered in clay you could hear him calling for Aunt Ki to come get us with the cold well water or trying to scare us about the bears that loved to eat children who went too far out into the woods on top of the hill. The teasing, the laughter, and that big ol' grin of Uncle Mart's will be greatly missed! The next time I eat some Amish-baked goodies, I will think of you Uncle Mart.

Uncle Matt loved to tease people. He also loved to watch reality tv. If you were someone who had anything to do with what he was watching he was always asking questions trying to see if what he was watching was true. You will be missed Uncle Mart.

I remember meeting Uncle Mart the first time he came to Virginia from Louisiana. He was such a joy to talk to and he and my Dad reminisced about Shreveport and the south. Mart's easy going demeanor and wry sense of humor made him so easy to talk to and he told the best stories. He will be truly missed. Barb and family, sending you love and keeping you in my prayers.

Uncle Mart was always a teaser. He loved to watch TV and drive. He lived hanging out with his sister Barb and brothers Bob and Doug. When I was little and Uncle Mart would stop in town, he would take mom and me out to a diner to get apple pie. One of his favorite desserts. I will miss his sense of humor. RIP Uncle Mart,
Love,
Mary Young
