Mostly remembering Spencer's kindness and love for his youngest brother David. There are far too many moments to list them all but he was always so caring & always concerned and checking in, like on Sunday nights to see how David's Sunday services went. Spencer was David's Spiritual Mentor. He was the one that had influence on David's Salvation years ago, praying for him many years. Spencer took in David & his daughter Amanda when he returned from Texas and continued to be a large influence in David's and my life and Ministry. Diana

I will very much cherish all the wonderful times we had with Brother Ferguson. He was such a godly man of character and honor. A respectable man that we very much looked up to. He was such an encouragement to my husband back when he was in the Youth Group at Central Baptist Church with his son, Greg. Then during our dating years and early years of marriage Spencer impacted so much godly wisdom and guidance to us. One of the many fond memories we have and so much appreciated was a time just after Harold and I were married. He found out that we didn't have much and that we were sleeping on the floor because we couldn't afford a bed or even a mattress, so he bought one and had it delivered to us where we lived in Indiana (much to our surprise)! That's just the kind of man he was. A very generous, kind, and loving man. Thank you Spencer for your love for us and for having been such a great example of what it is to be Christ-like to all of us. We love you and are looking forward to spending all of eternity with you! Sorry we didn't tell you more often while you were here! Love, Corinne Burrell and oh yeah, Harold

Janie,
Kate, Alexander and I were saddened by the news of Spencer's passing, you must be heartbroken. He will be missed and thought of regularly. Always welcoming with a ready, warm smile, Spencer had an easy-going, peaceful way about him. That's what I'll remember. We are praying for Spencer, you, and your family in this difficult time.

Tomorrow my uncle's earthly body will be laid to rest. I have many memories of him, but the one that sticks out the most is the time many years ago; (perhaps 15) when we were attending the funeral of another uncle on my mothers side and he and his wife showed up to show support for my mother. One of my boys, Deacon who was two or three at the time was tired after a long car ride and was fussy, uncooperative, and doing all the things tired kids do under similar conditions. I can't remember if he had ever seen my Uncle Spencer before, but if he had it was only briefly and not on very many occasions. I jokingly asked him if he wanted to sit with uncle Spencer, and to my surprise he ran right over to him which was surprising to those that had been witnessing his little show. He promptly got up in my uncles lap and soon thereafter, he was asleep. No one in my family could believe it. If you have kids, you know that for the most part they aren't keen on strangers, and Deacon was definitely no exception. Most people believe that small children and animals have some sort of 6th sense and can judge people and situations better than most adults- they are kind of in tune with their environment as sort of a built in defense mechanism. The fact that the child could sense my uncles spirit and was at perfect peace when even those closest to him were unable to calm him is a testimony to who he was. I have only met a handful of men in my life who actually embody the characteristics of what a man of God should be, and I'm blessed to be able to say he was one.
