Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elizabeth “Bette” J. Glenn-Cunningham, 90, of Painted Post, formerly of Cameron Mills and Sarasota, Florida, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Bette was born in West Pittston, Pennsylvania on March 4, 1933, the daughter of the late Mathias and Thelma (Chesworth) Sylvainus. As a young girl, Bette was enrolled in Ellis College in Newtown Square Pa. The years she spent there made a huge positive impact on her life. She graduated from Upper Moreland High School and went out to work for a brief time modeling clothes in NYC. She was employed at J.E. Caldwell Jewelry Store in Philadelphia, Pa. for many years and then US Healthcare (Aetna) from which she retired in 1996. In that same year she and her husband Walter moved to Sarasota, Fl., and lived a wonderful retired life there, where they continued rooting for their beloved Eagles football team ( with an MGD beer in hand !). Bette went to work part-time in the box office of the Sarasota Hollywood 20 Movie Theater for 21 years, and enjoyed meeting many celebrities during their "Red Carpet" events. In 2023, she moved from Sarasota to Cameron Mills, NY, and eventually into her apartment in Painted Post, NY. Always strong and fiercely independent, Bette made the most of what life gave her. She will be missed greatly. Bette is survived by her children, Lisa (Timothy) Hargrave of Cameron Mills, Susan Elizabeth Walsh of Pipersville, Pa. and Michael Edward (Kathy) Glenn of Harleysville, Pa., her grandchildren, Justin Matthew Martin (Renee) and Kimberlee M. (Sean) Steinhauer and nephews, Scott Sylvainus (Wendy) of Nazareth, Pa and Todd Sylvainus of Wildwood, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Alfred Glenn in 1982 and Walter Cunningham in 2008, her daughter, Patricia Glenn Starkey in 1985 and her brother, Edward H. Sylvainus in 2012. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 27 at 1 pm in Townline Cemetery, Cameron Mills, NY. Rev. Brian Diffenbacher will officiate. Friends are invited to gather following services at the social room at her apartment complex in Painted Post at 110 Creekside Drive where a meal and time of fellowship will be shared. Bette had a great love for animals and because of that memorial donations are suggested for Pawz and Purrz Animal Rescue. Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull, NY.
