Dyke Anthony Cook, 80, of Addison, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania. Born in Corning on January 17, 1944, Dyke was the son of the late Lester and Mary Ginatomasi Cook. Raised in Addison, he was a 1962 graduate of Addison Central School. Soon after his high school graduation, Dyke enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served until 1964, where he had been stationed at NATO Headquarters in Italy as a military police officer. On August 1, 1964, Dyke and the former Zilla Clark were married at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Addison. Dyke was employed by Polly-O Dairy in Campbell for a short period as a young man. He then worked for DZ Franzise Blacktop Co.. In 1972, Dyke moved his family to Virginia where he was a supervisor in a convenience store chain. They returned to Addison in 1979 where Dyke was employed by the Village of Addison DPW. From 1980 to 1998, Dyke and Zilla owned and operated D & Z Mini Mart. Dyke became very involved with community affairs, particularly youth sports. He was an avid fan of wrestling and was a co-founder of a youth wrestling group called TAWC (Tuscarora, Addison Wrestling Club). He had coached soccer, baseball, volleyball and basketball for Addison High School. He also coached Little League Baseball and Youth Soccer. Dyke was inducted into the Addison Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to high school sports and his dedication to youth sports. He was a former member of both the Addison and Tuscarora Fire Departments. Dyke was a member of the Williams-Greengrass American Legion Post in Addison and had been an active member of the Brewer Detachment of the Marine Corps League. Dyke enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as having love for anything automobile related. He drew great pleasure in following his children and later his grandchildren and great grandchildren in their sports and school activities. Surviving are his wife, Zilla Cook of Addison, his children and their spouses, Renaye and James Roy of Addison and Gregory and Trina Cook of Almond, his grandchildren, Kayla (Richard) Howard, Mark Baker, Michael (Alexis) Baker, Lily (Austin) Evener, Colton Cook, Aaron (Sarah) Catron, Adam (Frankie) Catron and Kaitlyn (Vince) Hagy, his great grandchildren, Sydney Howard, Braelynn Howard, Everett Baker, Olivia Evener, Clark Evener, Hailee, Eliana, Malina, Liam and Braylon Catron, Haven and Luna Catron and Niles and Waylon Hagy. his brother, Eugene Cook of Addison, his niece and nephews, Christopher Cook, Tyler Cook and Arika Cook, his great niece and nephews, Nicholas, Luke, Ava and Dakota, his sisters-in-law, Zandra Hodnett and Zee Clark and his brother-in-law, Zane Clark. Dyke was preceded in death by his parents and his infant sister, Mary Frances Cook, his sister-in-law, Zoe Ann Clark and Zilla’s parents, Shirley and Neva Clark. Friends may call on Saturday, April 20 from 11 am to 1 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St Woodhull, NY. A memorial service will follow there at 1 pm with Rev. Patrick Connor officiating.
