JASPER: James J. “Jim” Button, 65, of Hunter Hill passed away Wednesday evening July 10, 2024 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a brief illness. Jim was born February 20, 1959 at the former Bethesda Hospital in North Hornell to the late Robert J. and Evelyn M. (Edwards) Button. He was a graduate of Jasper Central School class of 1977. Jim worked for Sire Power, Longwell Lumber and bath central school before returning to Jasper and working 20 years for the Button Brothers Family Farm in Jasper. At the time he lived in Jasper he was a caregiver for his elderly parents until their passing. Outside of work, Jim enjoyed playing euchre, showing dairy cattle with his brothers Jack and Ron and hauling cattle to the market with brother Bob. He liked watching NASCAR racing and spending social time helping many friends. Jim will be remembered as having a pleasant and friendly smile on his face and who cherished the time spent with family and friends. While attending Jasper school he was very active with the Future Farmers of America. Jim received the Empire Farmer Degree, American Farmer Degree and served as NYS FFA Treasurer. He is survived by a daughter Alicia (Josh) Meindl of Hendersonville, NC two grandchildren, Lena and Lincoln. His siblings Nancy (James) Butler of Maryville, TN, Robert (Valerie) Button of Jasper, Susan Cornell of Rochester, Ronald (Cynthia) Button and Jack (Colleen) Button all of Troupsburg, several nieces, nephews and cousins. A special mention to dear friends Clint and Monica Button and Jeff Aldrich. There will be no calling hours or service. A private graveside service will be at the convenience of the family in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo. Memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be made to Jasper-Troupsburg FFA @ J-T Jr-Sr High School, 2661 State Route 248, Greenwood, NY 14839 Arrangements are in care of the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
