Elaine was in my CCC memoir class. I remember that she was an excellent writer & she was always smiling. Elaine also told me that she had a third grade teacher, Mrs. Tillinghast & that she was the teacher’s pet! How in the world did that same Ida Tillinghast end up as our substitute teacher at my high school, Bellport High School on Long Island? Thinking of Elaine makes me smile, too! I always enjoyed Happy at family reunions. She was always pleasant. My condolences to her family, especially Ruth who I've gotten to know over the last few years.

Ann, Teenie, Ruthie & families: You have my deepest condolences. Your mother lived a long, beautiful life, giving us all our own special memories. I loved Happy's homemade bread and the potted meat lunch sandwiches that Ruthie shared with me at school. Happy was a great cook. However, the memory that will always stay with me is, whenever I spent the night, one of the last things she would say (to Ruthie and me) was: 'Will you girls PLEASE quiet down and go to sleep!?' God speed, Happy and say hi to Ralph and Grandma and Grandpa Johnson
