Walter A. Hackett, 85, of East Morris St., Bath, NY, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 in Painted Post, NY. Walt was born in Woodhull, NY on October 25, 1929, the son of the late Elmer and Anna Swan Hackett. He was a 1948 graduate of the former Woodhull High School. Walt entered the US Army following high school and served during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the service, he studied at the Rochester Business Institute, earning a degree in accounting. On June 30, 1957, Walt and the former Kathleen VanDelinder were married at the United Methodist Church of Woodhull. Kathleen preceded him in death on June 12, 2010. Walt had a very diverse and varied career. He began with short employments with Remington Rand, Kodak and IBM as an auditor. He then became an accountant for Keystone Trucking in Rushford, NY. Walt was the business manager for first, the Rushford School District, then the Pioneer Central School in Yorkshire, NY and later for Bradford Central School in Bradford, NY. While working in Rushford, he and Kathleen operated Hackett's Hardware in Fillmore, NY. Walt also had owned and operated Tri County Publications in Arcade, NY. Walt was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Bath as well as the Bath Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his daughters, Michelle (Sam) Clark of Hillsboro, OH, Hope Ann Hackett (David Stankiewicz) of Grayson, GA and Gabrielle Hackett (Sergio Fernandez) of Plantation, FL, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, his brothers, Gilbert Hackett of North Chesterfield, VA and Leon Hackett of Addison and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 1 to 2 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. A memorial service will follow there at 2 PM with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
