Obituary of Robert Andrew Schoonover

Robert Andrew Schoonover, 93, of Bath VA Community Living Center, Bath, NY, formerly of Austinburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at his residence in Bath. Bob was born in Austinburg, PA on March 13, 1922, the son of Lewis A. and Anna Laura Prentice Schoonover. He was a graduate of the former Knoxville High School. Bob served in the US Merchant Marines during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He studied journalism at Temple University and American University Graduate School. Bob worked as a journalist and editor at various newspapers in Florida, New York and Philadelphia. He also was employed by the Florida Department of Public Health where he composed various articles and information publications for the health department to use in communicating with the public. On June 2, 1953, he and Lillian B. Schoonover were married. She survives. On December 20, 2014, on Bob's initiative, they renewed their wedding vows. Bob was an avid and talented painter. His works have been shared and enjoyed by many over the years. Surviving Bob are his wife of 62 years, Lillian of Bath, his brother, Leon Schoonover of Elkland, PA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rose Schoonover Parker and Ruth Resue. Friends may call on Friday, July 10 from 10 AM to noon at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at noon with Rev. David Brelo officiating. Burial will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery, Austinburg, PA.�� In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Robert Schoonover Scholarship Fund, c/o Northern Tioga School District, Elkland, PA.
