Gus was a very special man at J-T Elementary. As a teacher there, he was always ready and willing to help me with both big and small requests. He was a very caring person who would do anything for anyone. His children were his pride and joy and well as his beloved Rose and he talked of you all the time. I am sure you will all miss him but he'll always be there in your memories. So sorry for all of you in the family. Remember the good times. God bless you all.

My first memories of Gus date back to 1969. I was in Kindergarten at J.C.S. My Grandparents Bob and Alice Irvine lived next door to Gus, and as I spent time visiting there I learned who Gus was and what he did. It was all "good". As I made my way through school, Gus was a familiar sight in the hallways, out maintaining the fields and manhandling a brat wagon. He was behind the wheel on many journeys we made to opponents in various sports. Other than backing into a brick wall at Cohocton, I never personally saw him miss a corner. His skills as a maintenance man became clear to me when a cohort and I filled a toilet tank with Frito's Corn Chips. We unexpectedly walked in on him as he was re-tuning the commode. It worked as good as new. After leaving school I seldom crossed paths with him until I became a neighbor to him in 2011. During these past few years I have seen him speed by in his standard transmission Ford many times. A health setback a few years ago did not sideline Gus for long. He was no quitter. When he could get slowed down in time, he would occasionally stop in to my garage for some conversation and a couple cans of Redeye. I will miss him. My condolences to Lisa, Jeff ("Audie"),Michelle, the "Boys" and the entire extended family.

So sorry for your loss, and our thoughts are with you today, tomorrow and the days ahead. I have many fond memories of Gus while I was a student at Jasper-Troupsburg of him pushing the big broom around the hallways/cafeteria, driving my bus to and from school, him waving as he goes by my parents home in his Ford pickup truck and the award winning veggies that he grew down by the Taft farm. He will surely be missed.

Gus was one of the sweetest!! He was a janitor when I was in elementary school but he was more than that. He loved us kids and you could tell by the way he treated us. He was always there to receive a big hug and greet you with a smile. After graduating I only saw him once in awhile when I worked at the Troupsburg general store. He always came in with a smile and a "hello honey child". He will always be remembered. Prayers and love to his family.

Gus was one of a kind. He was always there to drive bus for all sporting events. One thing that I remember most is his volunteering to cook chicken for the annual 4th of July Jasper celebration, until all had been fed. He will be missed.
