��Jasper, NY | Augustus W. "Gus" Aldrich, 83, of Hunter Hill Road, Jasper, passed away at home on Monday, December 14, 2015 with his children at his side. Gus was born in Freeman, Town of Tuscarora, NY on March 14, 1932, the son of the late Richard and Carrie (Moyer) Aldrich. He attended school in Woodhull. On Nov. 20, 1954, he and the former Rosalind L. Austin were married in Elkland, PA. Rose preceded Gus in death on Feb. 17, 2014. Gus and Rose made their home in Woodhull until moving to Jasper in 1959. While in Woodhull Gus was a member of the Woodhull Fire Department, joining in 1950. He joined the Jasper Fire Department after moving to Jasper and is now an honorary member there. Gus had been employed on the railroad as a young man as well as RF Reynolds Cheese in Woodhull and Ingersoll Rand Foundry. He eventually was hired by the Jasper Central School District where he worked for many years as a custodian and bus driver prior to retirement from Jasper-Troupsburg School District. He was a very avid hunter, enjoying both deer hunting and raccoon hunting. Gus was a talented butcher and would process his own game as well as butchering farm animals for himself and others. While working for the school district, Gus drove many senior classes to Washington DC on their senior trips, a task he truly enjoyed. He was also a devoted school sports fan, rarely missing a soccer or basketball game. Besides his wife Rose, Gus was predeceased by his step daughter, Sandra Rutledge, his brothers, Lester Aldrich, Oscar Aldrich and Jerry Aldrich and his sisters, Harriett Newell, Carolyn Button and Winifred Sampson. Surviving is his son and daughter in law, Jeff & Shellie Aldrich of Jasper, his daughter and her partner, Lisi Nye and Curt Short of Woodhull, his granddaughter, Tyahna Marvin, his great granddaughter, Terigan Morse, his step grandchildren, Chris, Cody, Allen and Damion, his sisters, Emma Schoonover of Bradford, PA and Doris Stocum of Jasper and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be held there on Sunday at 2 PM with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will be made on Monday in Woodhull Cemetery.
