Obituary of Irvin E. Ney

Irvin E. Ney Sr., 84, of Olmstead Road, Woodhull, NY died suddenly on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Corning Hospital. Irvin was born in Maytown, PA on July 17, 1931, the only child of the late Irvin Bigler Ney and Mabel E. Floyd Ney. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in Korea as a medic in the 3rd Division of the US Army. Following his military service, Irvin was employed as a butcher at Pantry Pride Stores in Pennsylvania. He later worked at Armstrong Ceiling Tile Co. in Marietta, PA for 17 years. While residing in Pennsylvania he was a long time member of the Ironville, PA Fire Department and the Columbia Fish and Game Club. Irvin was an avid hunter, a collector of knives and a great military historian. He was a 40 year member of the 49th New York regiment of the North South Skirmish Assoc. which was a civil war buff organization. He always had dogs for companions and loved them dearly. On Dec. 31, 1995, he and Charlotte Spitz Dabinsky were married in Elmira. Charlotte survives. Also surviving are his son, Irvin E. Ney Jr. of Clearville, PA, his daughter, Marydrue Acevedo of Columbia, PA, his son in law, Jose Rosario Sr. of Richland, PA, 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, with a great grandson on the way. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Ney Rosario on Aug. 18, 2013, his son in law, Hector Acevedo and his brother in law, Stanley Spitz. Friends may call on Saturday, March 5 from 10 am to noon at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be held there at noon with Rev.Terry Moore officiating. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery.
