My thoughts and prayers go out to John, his family and friends. I want to specifically mention John's sister Joyce who was a classmate and a very sweet person. I see that John had the nickname of Honkey Tonk, and I would love to know the story behind that! In high school, John's nickname was "Moody". I guess that was because his mood could change in an instant. Mostly what I remember about John was his red hair, freckles, big smile, speeding through the halls at school and giving an "eeeeeerrr" like the sound of squealing brakes as he got up behind me. I've thought of him over the years and wondered where life had taken him. It sounds like he had a pretty good life, working with good people, and having a family to gather around him. Again, my thoughts and prayers to those he left behind.

John always had a smile for everyone! It was nice to see him smiling and talking to people who stopped and talked to him at the 7/11!

That's what my young Buddy John always called me. It always amazed me because that's what I was called as a child as my Dads nick name was Dyke. Like Chief 39, he had a special place in his heart for me. I would go out of my way to give him a ride and once took him to Harrisburg, P.A. to see a friend. He always paid his way and wouldn't let you take him for nothing. I, didn't know him by Honky Tonk, but I can say, it certainly was appropriate.John, I will certainly miss your presence and as Jerry said, you finally caught your last ride. There will be other John's with their thumbs out hitching a ride. Keep John smiling and offer them a ride. Rest in Peace my very good friend. I will miss you and your talks we had in my truck. With MUCH respect, Dykie Cook. Bill will have a job in his classic body shop waiting for you, for sure.

John....When I came to Addison, you were still in school. Then I knew you when you worked for Bill and Milson at the Body Shop. Of late, when you worked at Hibbard's we saw you quite often. Whether it was at NAPA or on the road, or sitting on the rail by 7-11, you were an individual that was unique and special in your own rights. RIP

Stopped for lunch in Osceola on Feb. 24 and John was there. I hadn't seen him to talk to in over a year. We had a good conversation. John could be pretty frustrating at times, but when things were straight, and if he liked you, there wasn't anything he wouldn't do to help you, and he'd always make sure he'd speak and inquire how your life was going. Like all people, there was good and bad about John, but he accomplished something we all should aspire to... He will be remembered, and when he is, it will be with a story and a smile. Rest easy Honky Tonk...Godspeed.
