CANISTEO: Doris A. Ordway, 88, of Greenwood St. passed away peacefully Saturday (May 14, 2016) at Hornell Gardens with the comfort and love of her family surrounding her. Doris was born April 2, 1928 in Canisteo to the late Glenn and Agnes M. (Binkey) Stiles. On December 27, 1947 in Canisteo she married Joe Ordway who survives and resides in Canisteo. Doris was a 1946 graduate of Canisteo Central School where she served as the class secretary. Doris was a long-time member of the former Home Bureau, Pounce Club (Card Club) and KaHoCo. She was also a life-time member of St. Joachim Catholic Church of Canisteo, St. Mary's Church in Rexville and the St. Joachim's Alter & Rosary Society. Doris was an avid gardener and enjoyed the art of ceramic painting. She passed on her excellent cooking, baking and canning skills and recipes to her children. But most of all Doris was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and loved spending time with them all. In addition to her husband Joe Ordway of 68 years, Doris is survived by a 6 daughters: Joy (David) Towner of Gettysburg, Pa., Sally (Steve) Weed, Patricia (Steve) Knapp, Becky (Joe) Baker all of Canisteo, Lisa (James) Ray of Hornell and Jennifer (John Foy) of Canisteo; 3 sons: Jeff (Kathy) Ordway, Mike (Sally) Ordway and Joel (Linda) Ordway also residing in Canisteo; 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Doris is also survived by a brother: Basil (Lois) Stiles and a sister: Kay McKibben both of Canisteo. In addition to her parents Doris was predeceased by a great-grandson Otto House V. A memorial service will take place on Thursday at 11:00 am at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. Everyone is invited to join the family in a celebration of Doris' life at the Canisteo American Legion immediately following the memorial service. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
