Jon E. Potter of Troupsburg, NY went to a better place on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the age of 57. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and exceptionally well regarded friend and neighbor. Jon was born in Wellsboro, PA on Jan. 27, 1959, the son of Gilbert and Margaret (Cochrane) Potter. Raised in Troupsburg, he was a graduate of Troupsburg Central School. On July 15, 1978, Jon and Kim Atkins were married at the Troupsburg United Methodist Church. He was gifted with great intelligence and common sense that allowed him to excel for several years as a computer architect at Kodak in Rochester, yet understood that his days pitching in as a farm hand in Troupsburg probably did more for the greater good. Jon had as Associates degree in Data Processing and a Bachelors in Computer Science from RIT but he could do anything. Always ready for a battle of wits, he attacked any challenge with focused exuberance. He was the "go-to" guy for any question. He could play board games all night and hold forth on local families' genealogy for hours, once creating charts to prove how 15 of the 18 members of his graduating class were related. He and Kim built their house in Troupsburg while living out of a camper in the lawn, figuring completion down to the day and the penny. Jon cherished his family and community and graced them with his frequent laughter and self-deprecating sense of humor which he kept to the end. He is survived by his wife, Kim Atkins Potter, his daughter and son in law, Michelle and Jaime Hill of Charlotte, NC, his mother, Margaret Potter of Henrietta, his sisters, Kathleen Potter of Henrietta, Marie (Gary) Vitali of Versailles, KY and Lori (James) Shick of Woodstock, GA and several nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. Jon was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Ashley Erin Potter on June 4, 1987 and by his father, Gilbert Potter on Feb. 10, 2011. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 2 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY.��
