Obituary of Norma Beverly Crane

Norma Beverly Crane, 86, of Addison, NY, passed into the Lord’s care on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira surrounded by family and friends.
Norma was born in Cowanesque, PA on May 7, 1930, the daughter of the late Ivan B. and Emily Albertene (King) Rushmore. She was raised in Cowanesque and then on the old family farm beside the Jemison River.
On Aug. 24, 1957, she married John J. Crane at the Borden Baptist Church and they made their home on their farm on Symonds Hill Road in Addison, NY.
Norma was an avid gardener, loved books and music and the animals on the farm. She was a patient artisan who created beautiful quilts and crocheted items. She was a genealogist who worked with the Steuben County Historical Society and Middletown Historical Society. She was historian for the Town of Woodhull for many years. Norma published two cookbooks of her own recipes and contributed to several books on local history. She served as secretary-treasurer for the Elk Creek Cemetery and loved being a member of TOPS.
She had worked at various jobs over the years, her first being at the Westfield Glove Factory and later as a buyer for Rosenblooms, on the assembly line at Thatcher Glass and as payroll clerk and secretary for HES Inc. in Addison.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her beloved husband, John, her sister, Maple Ingraham, her daughters, Judy (Gordon) McCarrick, Deborah (Roy) Bacon, Paula Spencer and Sheila (Jack) Thompson, all of Addison, her sons, Ron (Wanda) Bacon of Painted Post and Florida, Philip (Joanie) Bacon of Corning, James (Danielle) Spotts of Shallotte, NC and Danny Bostwick, grandchildren, Julie McCarrick Lyke, Jeff McCarrick, Brett Bacon, Lora Spencer, Rachel Dunning, Olivia Thompson, Lily Thompson, Ron Bacon, Bobbi-Jo Lee, Pam Tucker, Jennifer Brown, Brian Bacon, William Baker, Amanda Bacon, Landy Sullivan, Alicia Griffey, Corey Driskell, Zachary Spotts, Hannah Spotts, Tyler Mack, Jordan Bacon, Zoe Spencer, Mike Woughter and Tiffany Woughter, many great and great great grandchildren, brother in law, Dorr (Jan) Crane, sisters in law, Linda DuBois and Kathy (Jim) Hamblin, nieces, Carol McPherson, Dawnette Deiter, Barrie Magliocca and Patricia Rushmore and nephews, Jamie Hilboldt, Lannie Hilboldt and Terry McCloskey along with many dear friends.
Norma was preceded in death by her children, Christopher Crane, Alicia Crane, Charles Woughter and Leslie Woughter, her grandson, John McCarrick and her sister, Jean Hilboldt.
Funeral services will be held at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home in Woodhull, NY on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 at 2 PM with a luncheon to follow at the Addison American Legion Post on Maple St., Addison. The family will be available at the funeral home to greet friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Burial will be in Elk Creek Cemetery, Borden, NY.
