Marion was such a gem. Back in the 1970's at the Canisteo United Methodist Church, as president of the Altar Guild, she insisted girls could be acolytes as well as the boys. "There is nothing that says you cannot," she said as her niece Virginia Zellar and I robed up and walked down the aisle with the lit tapers for the first time. It may have been a matter of practicality to include the girls, but it felt like a vote of confidence. Virginia, I am sorry for the loss of your lovely aunt, an advocate, and, it was plain to see, someone who loved you dearly.
