Obituary of Marion A. Campbell
HENRIETTA/CANISTEO: Marion A. Campbell, 100, of Henrietta, formerly of Canisteo, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, December 10, 2017 at the home of her niece Virginia Merring in Henrietta.
Marion was born August 4, 1917 in Jasper, to the late Glenn and Roseltha (Stephens) Scribner.
Marion was formerly the clerk and treasurer for the Village of Canisteo for 37 years. Prior to being the village treasurer, she had worked for William Kellogg, former Steuben County Supervisor, as a secretary for 3 years in the Greenwood office. She had also worked for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture in Ithaca for 3 years. Marion was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Canisteo, where she had been founder and president of the Altar Guild for 50 years and treasurer of the memorial committee for 35 years. She was a member of the Hornell Area Women's Republican Club, a member of the Canisteo Order of Eastern Star for 50 years and a member of the Henrietta Senior Center.
Marion was a very energetic individual who was very active in her niece's life as well as her great-nephews. She went to the Senior Center every day and was constantly on the move, even driving at the age of 99. Her family was the joy of her life and she was theirs. She will be indescribably missed.
Marion is survived by her niece Virginia (Thomas) Merring of Henrietta, two great-nephews, Glenn Merring (Vanissa Ott) and Ryan Merring (Kerri Sherlock). Marion was predeceased by her sister Virginia (Scribner) Zellar and her brother Sterling Scribner.
At Marion's request there will be no calling hours. A private funeral service will be at the convenience of the family at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood, NY.
