Obituary of Dorr Haynes Williams

Please share a memory of Dorr to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dorr Haynes Williams, 88, of Wesley Gardens, Rochester, NY went Home March 2, 2018. Dorr was born in the town of Tuscarora to Roger and Cora Ward Williams, October 25, 1929.

Dorr grew up investigating and wandering the meadows and forests of Borden, NY, now Williams Road. He picked flowers and berries and grew to appreciate nature’s beauty like no one else.  His life-long love of nature blossomed into a career as a floral designer.  After the Army and a few adventurous years in NYC, Dorr made Rochester his home. After gaining experience in area flower shops, he opened and owned The Dorr Collection on Monroe Avenue for several years. There he created some of the most beautiful flower arrangements that Rochester has ever seen. Dorr enjoyed everything beautiful. Art, antiques, elegant glass, history, reading, writing, genealogy, classical music, and astrology were a few of his interests.

Dorr will be remembered for his creativity, outspokenness for what he thought was right (whether the topic was political, social, or health), and especially for his generosity to everyone. Bringing beauty and comfort to the lives of others was part of his daily routine. He worked hard for everything he got, never asking for anything. He made many friends, too many to even mention. His last years were spent enjoying classical music on WXXI during the day and Downton Abbey in the evening.

Dorr leaves several generations of cousins, nieces, andnephews, as well as many dear friends. His parents and siblings, Ethelyn Benjamin Hill, Bernita Strauss Mather, Mary Dunn Morseman, Ellery Williams and Ward Williams were waiting for him at heaven’s door.

Life celebrations will be organized for family and friends in Rochester and at Elk Creek Cemetery in Borden, NY. Call 607-359-2068 to be notified of details.  Remembrances may be left at http://hpsmithandsonfuneralhome.com/.
